Course description

This is a fun and lively course for absolute beginners introducing them to basic Italian.

What you need to join the class

None required.

What the course will cover

The course will cover basic grammar with lively dialogues, explanations and vocabulary. Students will learn how to cope with some of the situations they are likely to encounter when visiting Italy.

Teaching and learning activities

Role play, pair work, group work, reading, writing and listening exercises.

1.Say hello. 2.Say goodbye. 3.Say how you are. 4.Ask others how they are. 5.Apologise. 6.Say excuse me . 7.Ask someone to repeat something. 8.Ask someone to say something slowly. 9.Recognise numbers. 10.Say numbers. 11.Say the alphabet. 12.Recognise the alphabet. 13.Spell your name and simple words. 14.Say who you are. 15.Ask others what their name is. 16.Say where you come from. 17.Ask others where they come from. 18.Say where you live. 19.Ask others where they live. 20.Say if you are married. 21.Ask others if they are married. 22.Recognise basic food and drinks. 23.Order food and drinks in a restaurant. 24.Recognise a simple menu. 25.Ask for the bill. 26.Ask simple questions in a restaurant. 27.Reply to simple questions in a restaurant. 28.Book a room in a hotel or a site on a camp site. 29.Ask how to pay. 30.Reply to simple questions in a hotel. 31.Recognise the names of buildings and places of interest. 32.Ask where something is. 33.Follow simple directions. 34.Give simple directions. 35.Ask what the time is. 36.Understand and tell the time.

What you need to bring to the first class

Paper and pen.

Books, materials and equipment you need for the course (including additional costs, specialist stockists, etc.) Note: your tutor may recommend additional items during the course.

To be discussed at first lesson, but a text book is likely to cost in the region of £18-£20.

Additional information - General

At the beginning of the course, you will have an induction to the College and the course. Your tutor will ask you to complete a Student Learning Record (SLR) and agree your personal learning goals. All documents are a requirement of the Funding Agency. All students on courses funded by the ESFA must complete a Learning Agreement and SLR.
