Course description

Course for over 16 s, Bexley residents only. Run by the Waste and Recycling Department of Bexley Council. During this short 2-3 hour workshop you will be taught some simple techniques such as painting, decoupage and stencilling and be able to experiment with these on the day. After a bit of practise you can apply one of these ideas to a picture frame take home. You will find out how to upcycle furniture which you can then try out at home, saving you money and helping the environment!

What the course will cover

By the end of the session adults will be familiar with some tools and the importance of safety. They will also upcycle a wooden picture frame and understand how to adapt this to an item of furniture.

Teaching and learning activities

This is a highly hands-on course. You will be taught through demonstration, explanation and practical activities.

What you will be able to do by the end of the course (Course objectives)

1. Identify tools and equipment needed to upcycle furniture through decoupage, stencilling and painting. 2. Know some of the hazards of upcycling furniture. 3. Understand the impact of throwing away furniture and creating waste. 4. Experience decoupage and stencilling. 5. Use wood paint.

Examination or qualification (if applicable) including costs. The course fee usually includes examination costs: registration with the exam board, certification and administration fees. If the fees are not included, the brochure will tell you this.

Additional information - General

At the beginning of the course, you will have an induction to the College and the course. Your tutor may ask you to complete a Student Learning Record (SLR) and agree your personal learning goals. This paperwork is a requirement of the College s Quality Improvement Programme.
